Common test myths

Test Myths

I hear so many stories in my car from kids who have been misled by horror stories about the P’s test.  Nearly all of them are untrue.  Here’s some examples.

  • My mate failed for scratching his nose – Untrue, people itch!
  • My mate failed for going 1 kilometre over the limit – Untrue. During a driving test if a candidate exceeds the speed limit marginally and fixes it before the examiner tells them to slow down, then generally it is simply  1 point deduction
  • The examiner didn’t put their seatbelt on and I failed for not intrsructing them to put in on – Untrue. A testing officer will never try and trick the student to make them fail

And the absolute classic

  • My mate failed because he was a boy! They fail all boys first time! Where this one came from nobody knows

Reassure your kids that the test process is very fair and they only have to achieve 90%

The three main fail items are:

  • Failing to give way to another vehicle/pedestrian
  • Fail to stop fully at a stop line. So rolling through a stop sign
  • Failing to stop at an amber light when it was safe to do so.
